Chaos
reigns in Angel Creek
Rival
factions clash in street battle.
Range
War broke out on Main Street this week as factions from Wrightson
and Callaghan clashed. Angel Creek lawmen were also involved in
the gun battle which left two men dead and several injured.
The
fight began when Colt Clayden, a member of the Wrightson Faction,
was shot in the chest as he walked down the boardwalk outside the
Sheriff's Office. Deputy Baynard, witnessed the shooting and went
to the fallen man's aid.
At
about the same time firing could be heard in the saloon, where men
from the Callaghan Faction were drinking. Jack Bush, the barman
said that the back door of the saloon burst in and several gunmen
fired indiscriminately into the crowded bar wounding 'Slick' Jones
the Callaghan leader. A second Callaghan man in the bar returned
fire wounding 'Grizzly' John Malone.
Sheriff
Parsons and Marshall Sawyer entered the fray. Parsons backed up
deputy Baynard in the street. The deputy was involved in a
desperate duel with a Mexican gunman, later identified as Jesus
Mendez. It was Mendez who had shot Clayden.
