Chaos reigns in Angel Creek

Rival factions clash in street battle.

Range War broke out on Main Street this week as factions from Wrightson and Callaghan clashed. Angel Creek lawmen were also involved in the gun battle which left two men dead and several injured.

The fight began when Colt Clayden, a member of the Wrightson Faction, was shot in the chest as he walked down the boardwalk outside the Sheriff's Office. Deputy Baynard, witnessed the shooting and went to the fallen man's aid.

At about the same time firing could be heard in the saloon, where men from the Callaghan Faction were drinking. Jack Bush, the barman said that the back door of the saloon burst in and several gunmen fired indiscriminately into the crowded bar wounding 'Slick' Jones the Callaghan leader. A second Callaghan man in the bar returned fire wounding 'Grizzly' John Malone.

Sheriff Parsons and Marshall Sawyer entered the fray. Parsons backed up deputy Baynard in the street. The deputy was involved in a desperate duel with a Mexican gunman, later identified as Jesus Mendez. It was Mendez who had shot Clayden.

Both Sheriff Parsons and Deputy Baynard were wounded while exchanging fire with the sneaky Mexican. However they eventually managed to shoot down Mendez, who died from several bullet wounds.

Marshall Sawyer brought the fight in the saloon to a stand still by wounding three more gunmen.

Unfortunately Clayden bleed to death in the middle of the street as the battle raged. It is not clear why Mendez opened fire on Clayden, both Wrightson and Callaghan deny there is any ill feeling between them and claim there is no range War.

Bank Teller Murdered.

In a separate incident a teller at the First National Bank in Angel Creek was gunned down by a young desperado, identified just as Davy Boy. The teller Hans Rand, 24, refused to hand over any money when threatened and was shot twice in the head.

Davy Boy has been linked to the Wrightson Faction, but we asked Sam Wrightson, during a recent visit into town, and he denied all knowledge of the Kid.
